Black Guards have Cyber ... and crew

Nashh looked over the figures Morrigan presented to him. Nodding agreeably he flicked through a few pages worth of numbers and graphs.

'Excellent work Morrigan, excellent'. Nashh flicked back to one of the earlier pages and highlighted a few items. 'Pay these out at market price will you, add 20% extra, then box up the items and send them to Tibbs'.

'Yessir' Morrigan sighed, she never did like that Bastard.

Nashh simply smiled at her. 'Give my regards to the boys as well; tell them to keep up the good work'.

'I will' the loyal assistant smiled. 'How is it going here? Miss me yet?'

'Ha!' Nashh started, 'yeah I miss you alright, but I need you in there babes, I wouldn't trust anyone else'.

Nashh wrapped his right hand around her neck and kissed her forehead. Morrigan looked up and pouted in the hope for a more intimate kiss but he had already turned away...

Oblivious to her advance Nashh started to ramble on about all the different methods he has tried or is trying to recruit more members. He then proceeded to tell her all the reasons why people should join and how he didn't understand...

Morrigan only half listened, nodding and humming in agreement occasionally.

'I just need a few more members, you know, to get the ball rolling..'

'I mean what else hey? What else can I possibly do?' Nashh turned to see Morrigan packing away her Neo-pad. 'You gotta go already?' Nashh looked from his watch back to her.

'Yes Nashh, good luck here though hey' she kissed him on the cheek as she passed by.

'Try calling old friends!' she shouted before closing the door behind her.

'I haven't got any!' Nashh shouted back.

He muttered some swearwords under his breath, picked up the mug of cold coffee and took a swig.

He muttered some more...

Tjirptjirp sounded the high-pitched buzzer on his intercom.

'Yeah what?'

'Good morning to you too sir'. It was Anabaric.

Nashh grumbled.

'Yeah so anyway there are some guys here to see you'.

'Who is it mate, I am busy'.

There was static noise and the volume dropped but Nashh could make out some voices.

A crackle sounded and Officer 'Ana' returned, 'Cyber or some shit and his crew, he says he is your mate?'.

'Cyber? Wait...'

The intercom crackled again and a vague yelp could be heard.

The voice on the intercom had changed.

'Nashh, it's me Cyber, come down here I have news about your recruitment'.

Nashh fell silent for a moment.

'Oi, Nashh!'

'Er.. yep, yes, roger.. I am on my way down now'.

-=o0o=-

With a loud hiss the lift doors opened to the Black Guard hangar. Nashh stepped out, slowly, not really sure what to expect.

Acute and Caldarla stood a little further down the hall in front of a Rifter class frigate under construction. They were nodding as Cyber spoke to them, using both his hands to depict a battle scene or so it appeared. Anabaric and three other figures were in deep conversation over by some ammo crates until one of them looked up.

Delisa excused herself from the little group and made her way over. Nashh smiled awkwardly and stuck out his hand, 'hi'.

Delisa broke out a firm salute and clicked her heels, 'Delisa, reporting for duty, Sir!'.

'I...er' Nashh started, 'at ease...'.

'Yessir, it's a pleasure meeting you sir' Delisa continued, 'Cyber has told me all about you'.

'Has he now...' Nashh looked over Delisa's shoulder and saw Cyber walking over. 'You can call me Nashh, drop the Sir ok?'.

'Yes... Nashh' Delisa struggled. 'I shall leave you two to talk' she smiled at the two CEO's and turned to join the group of men further down the hall.

'Friendly crew you got there Cyber' the Black Guards CEO began, 'I don't owe you any money do I?'

Cyber grinned, 'no mate, I would remember'. The imposing Amarrian slowly looked around, checking out the hangar from floor to ceiling. 'Its a bit empty here buddy...'

'Cyber, no offense but the suspense is killing me...'

'Good news and bad news mate' Cyber smiled and put a hand on Nashh's shoulder. 'Bad news is that I have little to no control over Lex' Cyber looked over at the huddle of pilots, 'nobody does.....'.

Lex sat on an ammo crate with one arm resting on his knee. He looked over and nodded, as if he knew he was being talked about.

Nashh nodded back. 'Right, gotcha'.

'Good news is that your Corp will grow nearly twice-fold in the next 24 hours'.

Nashh looked perplexed. 'I...er..'.

'Unless recruitment is closed mate?' Nashh snapped out of his daze, 'Hell no brother!' Nashh grabbed the Renegade CEO's hand and shook it. 'Awesome stuff!' Nashh slung an arm around Cyber as the two of the walked over to the rest of the crew. 'This calls for a beer! First round is on me!'.

'No Nashh, all the beers are on you...'.

Black Guards are recruiting damnit!!!1!

With the start of two corps my time and attention had to be split significantly over the last few months.

The WH Corp is ticking over nicely now though and with 2 directors appointed it is working smoothly without too much of my help. I still do the admin and loot recording/ payouts but a great little venture it has proven to be.

Recruitment is still open for the WH Corp but only for friends and family. So if you are not one of those, don't ask.

My main attention and drive is to recruit for the PVP Corp. Facebook, blogs, podcast interviews and adverts, forum spam, recruitment channels, you name it. Nobody will be safe from the recruitment frenzy, don't be surprised if the first thing I blabber out at you is 'so when are you joining?'.

Summertime is over, pixelated-space-boat-captains around the world will be returning after a refreshing break. All the CCP haters are slowly switching of their tanks and robots to return to the one and only game to play.

Come and make space-boat violence with us!

Our forum is alive and full of informative stuffs. Our killboard occasionally has some green on it and we have an awesome webpage with automated application system.

Go on, come check us out here.

So, when are YOU joining? (or folding your Corp into mine?)

A big shout out and all credit to TheHermit, Bastard director and techno wiz, the man behind the Kadavr website, forum and killboard. This sick puppy is also the creator of this little gem. You interested in one of his many services? Drop him a mail in-game! More on TheHermit's awesomeness soon...

MEME; my first recorded loss.

After Kirith Kodachi started this meme a little while ago I figured I should pipe up and show you mine. I owned a character as my main before Nashh so the truth is I actually lost a caracal with mixed sized shield, 100mm armorplate and mixed sized launchers with 8 different types of ammo in my hold but lets not talk about that one hey...

Nashh's First recorded loss is one I remember rather well. Nashh started out as a hauling alt and my then second main was Desmun (rip). Desmun did my building and inveting etc at the time and I started collecting all the sub BS blue prints for ships and eventually ammo and the likes. That was before I realised that non of those endevours made me any money whatsoever.

Anyways long story short; I raced to some unknown system to pick up some blueprints I had purchased and activated the auto-pilot back to my then homesystem. the entire route was highsec and with no experiance in ganking or evil in our glorious and safe hi sec I resumed other activities on another account.

Black Guards have Kodachi .... Kirith Kodachi

Me and Kirith go way back... Somewhere in CDM heydays we fought a few awesome scraps and I have been a big fan of his blog for a long time. In fact he is likely a reason I started blogging myself and am still.

Two years ago I tried to convince Kirith to come join the bastards but was fairly quickly rejected. M3 was still going strong at the time and Kirith was going to sit it out a bit longer in nul.

For the last few months I restarted my pursuit of acquiring him into our ranks. Hard work and some agonizing waits (and the demise of M3) but finally...

... the blogging behemoth will be shooting stuff in low sec and shooting the right direction too!

(not at me that is, not on purpose anyway)

100 blog postings

100!
This is my onehundreth post! For some not a mayor achievement perhaps, but for me it is. I had never thought I enjoyed writing to be very honest but August 2009 I started off to give it a try.

Being a big fan of the Capsuleer application on my i-pod, being part of the blog pack was a dream. That dream realised I just hope to post enough readable material to keep me in it.

The beginnings
One of my first projects took off like a rocket. Celebrity Death Match was born the day I fought Shae Tiann and wrote a post about it calling it CDM just for shits and giggles. Piggybacking on the success of others the concept became well known and before I knew it I was renamed; ‘that CDM guy’.

The CDM project is still going but it is increasingly harder to get celebrities to commit and agree a time and place to meet up. The series however remains the back bone of my blog and still gets the most hits when I post a new one.

Just this week #21 has been completed and CDM #20 is still to be posted, I have a few celebrities that have agreed to meet and fight me but more on that soon.

Then what?
Other than the CDM posts I run various other projects; ‘A week in the life of…’ Is a series where I spend a week in a well known corp to see what they get up to and what the pilots are like. ‘A week in the life of the Pythons’ proved to be a huge success and a second one had been planned not long after. I intended to spend a week with the Tuskers but with a Bastard/Tusker alliance now in full effect it seems a little pointless. That and the fact the Tuskers have been getting enough attention lately made me put this one off a little longer…

‘Project Rifter’ has just commenced and seems to be reasonable popular also. I wanted to see what the big deal with the Rifter was and thus skilled 46 days specifically to fly this frigate. The project is in full swing so more on that soon…

Fillers
The all important fillers; in between projects I try to keep my audience entertained with some Pirate related adventures under the posting header ‘Pirates Ahoy!’. In these posts I tell the tales of Bastards and friends and the yarring we get into.

I tried to be clever like Roc Wieler and do a ‘Roc’s Rules’ type thing with the Series called ‘Bio Funnies’, however I have not found this particularly stimulating and have stopped these for the time being.

Another string of posts I started is the Help Desk. Originally I intended to publish self written guides about; D-scanner use, probing, aggression timers etc etc. These have all been done so many times already however and much better than I could do myself. Instead it evolved in to a ship fitting guide with clear disclaimers to avoid too much trolling.

Ramblings is another header I use to post stuff I simply can’t fit in anywhere else, it is indeed filled with ramblings and if I doodle anything this is where it can be found.

Fans?
I don’t know about fans but my blog has 46 followers and I get the occasional shout-out in local. I find it all very flattering and have learned to enjoy it. My goal is to eventually have as many followers as Kirith or Mynxee, go on, stroke my ego and click 'follow'.

Pilots have convo’d me throughout EVE to complement or duel me and I always accept. I don’t mind losing a ship here or there…

I did once get an EVE-mail from an army-chap based in Iraq, who said my post made his days easier, that choked me up a bit…

Stats
I have to admit I am a bit of a pc-noob and thus don’t know how to find out if anybody has subscribed to this blog through Google-reader or such likes. A friend has been so kind to add Google Analytics to my blog and I have been following that every day ever since…

In a game of statistics lets have some statistics, please note that these figures are taken from Google Analytics and thus do not show some RSS feeds and no i-pod capsuleer readers are added to this. God knows how many i-podders read all this rubbish, they never leave a comment =)

And now?
Wow, I don’t know really, we’ll see where all this takes me. I am a proud Bastard and intend to stay there and thus posts will be Bastard related in some way for sure.

As CDM #20 has already happened I shall post CDM statistic next I guess as I try to do them every 5 CDM’s. Other than that I am working on a video to go with the next ‘Project Rifter’ post, desperately trying to get hold of Photoshop so I can work on some more art-work and then there is recruitment again soon too…

Celebrity Death (re-re-) Match #18 Kirith Kodachi

Kirith Kodachi – Blogging Allstar

Kirith Kodachi, the man with self professed verbal diarrhoea, and me vowed to catch up after our very first meeting some 4 months ago. This very first meeting was to be victorious for me. And a glorious victory is was, spreading my favourite blogger’s Myrmidon across space in my favourite ship.

After much fist shaking and trying to find time for each other, a rematch finally came about. This time however Kirith outsmarted me and as skill-full as a surgeon took my destroyer to bits without taking any damage himself.

We agreed at the time that if indeed he would win our second battle the score would be a draw; a CDM impossibility. Kirith agreed to fight me in my favourite ship class if he would win the second meeting and therefore I felt victorious already when I found my pod bobbing gently in space.

My foe claimed two CDM firsts; a fight in Destroyers and now in Battleships. The fight dubbed ‘Rumble in Rens’ unfortunately got postponed due to laptop issues on my side, but late on Thursday night we managed to catch up to arrange the duel for the following night.

I rushed home from work on Friday night with the knowledge I had to get my Battleship to Rens and I was at least 22 jumps out, with the added issue I would have to check/change the fitting.

My fleet had been stationed around the Amamake area in the time I spend with the Caldari Navy. Most of my ships there have been either destroyed or taken to bits and sold for parts. Most of my modules in that region have also been sold, all just to fund my new passion; pirating.

I arrived in a shuttle to pick up my standard Raven the ‘Woop-Ass’. One of originally 6 Battleships here it is my last, and she was finally going to see action again.

It sported a target painter, something this fight clearly did not require and a drone bay full of random drones. I stripped the drone bay out and added the one Faction Sentry drone I had left and some mixed Tech 2 mediums. The fit originally had a MWD but out of experience flying with Kirith I knew that would be pointless as he would catch me anyway. Instead I chose to lose all non tank/gank gear and built a brick shit house, created for only one thing; Kiriths doom.

I would like to dedicate this fight to ‘Lars Matterson’, an EVE capsuleer who generously donated 50 million isk to be used for the CDM series.

-=*=-

‘Woop-Ass’ slipped into the darkness, the rear of the enormous Raven class Battleship lit up by the bright light bleeding from the undock point.

As the ship aligned for planet 1 my heart started pounding more intensely. I could do with a CDM win; the score board certainly does not favour me at this stage.

‘Warpdrive active’ Aura informed me as I checked my systems and drone bay format.

‘Rokh?’ I asked, expecting Kirith to fly a blaster Rokh. As I landed his answer came at the same time his ship entered my overview…

‘Mega’ Kirith smiled…’Shit’…

Cans were exchanged and I knew this was going to be a tough one as our ships aligned to planet 2.

I entered warp a second before Kirith but on landing he was already waiting for me. The tjirping of my targeting system lasted only seconds but it felt like an eternity. Primed Tech 2 Torpedoes needed no encouragement, shaking of the gathered dust as they left their bays.

‘Launch drones!’ I commanded as the first volley hit. Wave after wave of Torpedoes exploded viciously through his shield and ripped away large chunks of his armour.

The 20 click gap closed fast, even faster than I had expected. My shields trembled with every hit my foe scored, now in a comfortable orbit around my vessel.

Powerhouse versus powerhouse, slugging away mercilessly. Overheating modules burning brightly, glowing red. Huge Torpedo impacts lit up the blackness.

This was not the match that required flying skills; it was a mere test of strength and defence. With his armour reaching a low point a sliver of hope crossed my mind…

‘Your ship is out of control’ Aura bleakly noted as she spat my escape pod into the void.

A giant dust cloud engulfed my pod as bits of Raven splattered against its side. ‘Well done Kirith, good fight!’ I managed to squeeze out. ‘Wow!’ he replied excitedly.

This was sure to put a spring into his step for the rest of the day I figured. I was happy for his win as I am sure he had been hunkering for this moment since that fateful day I separated him from his Battlecruiser.

Kirith had taken drastic steps to ensure victory; he had fitted nearly his entire ship with faction modules. After all he does have a reputation to uphold. It takes balls though to take out such an expense, I mean this fight had taken him to 19% armour and I bet he was sweating a fair bit throughout.

Props to Kirith for bringing it once more and giving me a thrilling fight to remember, I am looking forward to the write-up my friend! Although this is the last CDM we will be fighting against each other I hope this is not the last time we meet. But more on that later…

Weekly Update #10

Weekly Update (12th – 18th October)

The worst possible thing has happened to me this week; my laptop has crashed. I would settle for being station bound but no such luck, planet bound it is. I am getting my EVE-fix via blogs and the Capsuleer app on my I-pod, and get to do some drawings for my fiction story. My laptop should be returned to me by Wednesday if there are no further complications. Until then I’ll ninja the wife’s laptop to blog.

A quick shout out to the 4 new followers I have gained since my last reference to it, bringing the total to 17! I have also managed to sign up to Google Analytics which has been insightful. I have been told that is unlikely to show all my readers and neither will it show the I-pod Capsuleer readers. But it’s a start. At least it gives an indication what posts’ have been popular and where my traffic has come from. Shame I didn’t get it any earlier.

It will not be a surprise that working with Mynxee on the EPIC CDM has boosted my ratings too. To give you an idea; nearly 50% of my hits have come through her post on the events. It begs the question how many hits Mynxee gets in one day? 1000? 2000? More?

Another neat feature of Google Analytics is that it shows the Google searches people made to get to your site. ‘Kestrel of Doom’ has landed me 6 hits, ‘Voers Fitting Tool’ has been searched for four times and ‘eve invention vexor Ishtar skills’ apparently leads the way to my site too?!?!

The highest referring site other than Google and nearly matching it is Mynxee’s class blog. To my surprise Kane Rizzels blog gave me 45 referrals in the last 7 days too, surprising only because our CDM was a fair few weeks ago...

Other than that I just wanted to spur on more people to join the in-game Bloggers Channel. Whether you write a blog yourself, want to write a blog or just want to say ‘hi’.

Celebrity Death Match
This week finally saw the completion of CDM#17 the long awaited and overdue re-match with Kirith Kodachi. It’s never nice to lose but kirith beat me well and outsmarted me. The blow of the loss has also been softened by the fact I have also secured a Battleship duel. A fight I have been craving for for some time. Rules for this have not been established and thus please keep suggestions coming.

I had hoped to get the blogfather Crazy Kinux to offer me this opportunity but CK is impossible to find in-game. Clearly our on-line times missing each-other. CK is as rare as Morphite in high sec. =)

Pirating
This week saw my Bastard application accepted! Big news for me as I have been following all Bastard related Blogs and stories available. I have been flying with the Bastards for a fair few weeks and have had a great time doing so. The crew is great to hang around with and are professional but above all; fun. I can see myself settling in for the long haul as I have been made to feel right at home. Special thanks to Happy San who has helped me settle in and has also being my mentor and recruiter.

As new recruits come in, unfortunately some of the older members move on too. Gorgoleon has by now indicated he is leaving and his colourful FC’ing will be sorely missed. I am grateful for him dragging a small bunch of us around the other day scoring some class-A kills; including a Cerberus, Raven and a Loki.

I am now also recognised by CONCORD as a criminal as my Sec status dropped to -6.2. Helped along by a few pod kills I must add but hey; can’t make an omelette without breaking some eggs.

Another great feature of the Bastards is their ranking system which strives one to be better and get involved. I have, with the help of the kills I made in the last few weeks, got my first promotion to 1st Luitenant and if my laptop would still have been with me this weekend I am confident I would have made it to Captain before this post. The curve upwards after this is steep however but my goal is to be at the top one day.

For those of you that read my first fiction story and particularly the last chapter can imagine my excitement when I joined a bastard roam in my Crow Interceptor and a Charon Freighter got scanned down by Happy San. I simply had to be involved and after a first fail with 2 interceptors to get a lock, Happy managed to scan him down again.

I was the first one there, eager for the ransom or kill. On landing and warp bubble collapse my primed point started to lock... Point! Point! Point! I shouted over comms. My excitement replaced by frustration as the freighter disappeared from my overview. WTF?!

Corie did a logofski. We waited around in neighbouring systems for some time and I made the decision to log off myself in the place where Corie disappeared. The remaining gang returned home to Evatie and fell asleep. Asleep long enough not to notice Corie logged back on and made a safe get-away.

I sighed with frustration but my mood picked up when Corie was spotted in a belt of the system we had come from not long before. Clearly bait in his Drake and with an Apocalypse Battleship as backup. Still angry with the poor sportsmanship of logging off whilst under attack, both fell to our firepower and that eased my mind a little. The strangest thing is that although they where baiting neither one of their ship had a point fitted...

We followed this up with a Wormhole raid where we killed 2 Stealth Bombers and tried to ransom a T2 Destroyer. I say tried as we held our fire to allow our victim to pay as he offered to pay on his own accord. A minor delay allowed him to slip out of the wormhole itself with me and me0de hot on his tail. Both of us in our haste to catch the SOB jumped into a 0.5 system.

It appears I am no longer welcome there but managed to warp around the system and back out the way I came with just my structure intact. me0de was not so lucky unfortunately and had to go home in his pod.

In other news
My industry Alt has been parked up in a wormhole for some time now but I rarely log him in anymore. I feel the CORP he is in deserves better than that and so I have tendered my resignation.

I have not built anything for some time; in fact the last thing I built was the carrier in which he sits. My extreme spending spree over the last 2 months has seen me blow 4 billion isk on booze, woman, poker, CDM and some ships.

I have come to the conclusion my 3rd account is now too much for me to handle and it’s time to sell him to recuperate some isk. For those of you interested please contact me in-game, leave me a message on my blog or email me on nshhkdvr@gmail.com . Please note that although he comes complete with a Carrier he is not a combat pilot.

That’s it for now...

Celebrity Death (Re-)Match #17 Kirith Kodachi

Kirith Kodachi – The Fist Shaker (14th October 2009)

Finally the long awaited re-match with Kirith Kodachi. Mr Kodachi has been shaking fists at me through varies means after losing his first Celebrity Death Match in Battlecruisers.

A rematch was sure to happen but it has taken a fair bit of time to actually get online together and slug it out once more. Both of us have either been pre-occupied with RL or Eve related stuff.

Kirith is still one of the most abundant writers in the blogging community. I don’t know how he does it. I mean; I know how long it takes to write a post. Some longer than others, but checking your spelling, re-reading them to make sure you don’t sound stupid takes some time. Kirith however blogs like I a normal human’s heart beats.

‘Verbal diarrhoea’ he professed to me. Maybe so but it still requires a significant amount of intellect to come up with the quality posts, at the amount he does. I take my hat off and hold him in high esteem.

‘/me Shakes fist at Nashh’ is something that became familiar to me whenever Kirith and myself found ourselves online at the same time. Not that he was bitter I am sure but merely a loss he perhaps not had expected. Also he indicated fairly quickly he would like to meet again. Destroyer class vessels this time, a CDM first.

Here we are, 12 Celebrity Death Matches have happened between our 2 encounters. Number 5 proved unlucky for Kirith but was number 17 to be any better? I felt confident that it was my turn to win again…

I know that my foe holds higher skill points in nearly everything but Missile’s and there are no Tech 1 Destroyers with any launcher hard-points. I have however skilled for the Turrets I fitted on my Navy Vexor last Sunday so I didn’t mind too much. I only have the Destroyer skill to level 2 but so does Kirith last time I checked, so again that did not worry me.

Then it came to choosing a ship; either the Caldari Cormorant or the Gallente Catalyst. Browsing some websites I decided to go with a gank Catalyst, hoping to out-damage my opponent quickly.

Checking EFT with some suggested fits did not suit me as well as I thought and I remembered that Mr Kodachi has superior navigation skills. Not an issue per se but with a short-range setup this could make it difficult for me. I didn’t want to be sniped to death…

I’ll snipe him instead I figured. Back to the drawing-board, forget Battleclinic and Scrapheaps, brain power and beer is all I need. Speed module? Check! 125mm Railguns? Check! Damage rigs? Check!...mmm extra mid slots… lets see, if I get into a 5 k orbit, nos him to make my cap stable, then use tracking disrupters. Yeah! That’s it!

It all just about fit and I purchased the modules I needed. All I required now was a +12 powercore. I remembered I bought Caldari Navy Powercore a few weeks back but I left it in Evati. A round trip of 44 jumps but I was a little early and figured I could make it in 30 minutes so I set off…

Halfway to Evati, Kiriths portrait blinked in the bottom of my screen, soon followed by a private chat window opening.

We chatted for the duration of the journey but did not meet up on vent, both of us sitting next to our pregnant better halves watching tv. For some reason spaceships do not appeal to everyone…

I asked him if he had brought a Catalyst or a Cormorant himself, not that it would have changed my fit as my ship was ready to go. ‘Catalyst’ he hesitantly revealed. ‘Crap’ I said, knowing the potential DPS he would be able to inflict on me if my plan wouldn’t work…

On arrival in system we did not waste any time and undocked and met at Planet 1. We took from each others cans and agreed to warp to planet 2 to commence battle.

‘Shall I warp to 20 and you to 0?’ Kirith requested. ‘Sure’ I immediately replied, knowing that a little space between us from the start would suit my plan very well. My heartbeat sped up and my face started to glow with anticipation. Kirith had unknowing signed his own death…

Upon the Warp bubbles collapse neither of us paused; targeting and activating all modules available… With weapons roaring and disrupters disrupting, I selected the 5 kilometre orbit I wanted. I was taking some damage but it didn’t bother me as I knew my win was secured as soon as I get into orbit.

My pitiful shields started to take huge hits now and it finally dawned on me I was no where near getting the orbit distance I wanted. I intended stay out of the range of his weapons but instead Kirith stayed out of the range of mine!

My foe had slipped into a comfortable 40k orbit from me and peppered my fragile hull taking no more than a minute or so to rip it apart.

Kirith had got his revenge and got it well. Spoils went to the victor and it included the Caldari Navy Powercore which was to be the trophy of our encounter.

Kirith wrote a great article on duels, something that clearly took my notice, being in the duelling business myself. Maybe it would be nice to add trophies and a prize cupboard in ones hangar.

Before the fight commenced we already agreed there cannot be a CDM that draws, there needs to be a winner. Kirith agreed to a Battleship duel if he would win. Now I am clearly gutted to have lost, however the now secured BS fight has lifted my spirits…

I know Kirith is mad for his Rokh but I don’t really fancy being sniped from 190K so some rules will have to be set. Range for one, no ECM for second. If anyone has a suggestion on how to go about this upcoming fight leave me a message…

For now lets leave Mr Kirith Kodachi to gloat…

Celebrity Death Match #5 Kirith Kodachi

Kirith Kodachi- Author of the inner sanctum of the Ninveah (16th August 2009)

First off I want to say Kirith is one off my favourite bloggers. I like his writing style and a lot of the experiences he writes about are relevant to what I do myself. Also he is one of the most active bloggers in the blog pack and I always smile when I get another update from him on the capsuleer app on my i-pod.

So who better to fight in a Celebrtiy Death Match than him? Exactly.

Kirith had been added to my address book a little while ago but I haven managed to pin him down until earlier this week. I had already briefly discussed a duel with him on his blog posts and he seemed really keen. I convo’d him earlier Saturday morning and he promptly replied. He explained he was a little busy at the moment but if we both had time later to do it then. We briefly discussed ship class and location. A Battlecruiser fight it was to be! Yay! My favourite! The location worked out really well for me too as I already parked up a Drake in Emolgranlan in preparation for my fight with Kane Rizzel. I hope he doesn’t read this.

I have actually been stuck in a wormhole for most of the day Saturday and it gave me time to find out more about what I was getting into. I found Kiriths skills listed in his blog and spent some time assessing what ship he would bring and what weapons he would fit. My conclusion was that he himself would be quite likely to fly a Drake and I expected him to fit it with assault launchers. I cursed the tiny drone bay as I couldn’t decide between ECM drones or combat drones. In my fight with Wensley he had shown how effective they can be and I figured that even if I manage to jam him 2 cycles it would probably turn the fight in my favour. A lot of our missile and shield skills are comparable and both of us have Battlecruisers trained to level 5. It was sure to be a close fight. He was likely to fit a microwarpdrive even if he would not come in a Drake so I decided not to fit one myself initially as his navigation skills are higher then mine anyway and he would catch up with me in the end. Instead I took the mwd off and slapped on another large shield extender, hoping to outlast him.

The actual fight took place on Sunday when I had renewed opinions about Frigate class vessels after my scrap with Roc Wieler. I had returned to Emolgranlan to wait for Kirith or Kane Rizzel. But after some time waiting and no replys from Kane I decided to go to my main base just outside Amamake to setup a few Frigates for future fights. I had only just arrived there and sods law; I get a private convo from Kirith. Bingo!

Kirith had limited time however and I sped the 11 jumps back as quick as my pod would take me. On route back we both agreed the rules; no warping off, no pod kills, a fight to the death. We decided to stay in the 0.5 security system, meet at planet 1 and for me to take from his jetted can to get aggro. I would then warp to planet 2 and wait for his arrival.

On arrival I docked and strapped myself into one of the two Drakes parked up there. Aptly named ‘Super Fast Barn Door’ it was not the ship I intended to take in the first instance but I had changed my mind. I chose for a mwd over the extra shield and fitted ECM drones.

I undocked the ‘Super Fast Barn Door’ and warped to planet 1. To my surprise, as by now I had convinced myself he would fly a Drake, he sat there waiting next to a can in a Myrmidon. Interesting. I proceeded with the illegal act of thievery, tut tut, and warped to planet 2.

The long distance warp drive shut down and the microwarpdrive activated giving me about 5 k distance when Kirith landed just behind me. His ships name ‘pistols at dawn’ made me laugh as we locked horns. As I would have expected from a blaster fit Myrmidon he made his way in my direction at a steady pace and I struggled to keep him at any distance. My targeting system seemed to take forever getting a lock on the foes ship but when they did my trusted Scourge Fury Missiles didn’t hesitate and did what they do best. His shields shattered within a few volleys, I remained calm knowing that that doesn’t mean anything. His armour immediately felt harder as only fractions of the indicators turned red with every volley.

At this stage I had not received any damage just yet and found a comfortable 10 k orbit of my rival. To obsessed with working out if I could win this I forgot to check on my drones and surprise surprise; the reason I hadn’t received any damage yet was because the ECM drones had been taking the flack for me. There were only 2 of them remaining so I decided to leave them out in the hope they would at least get a lock on him before they too bought it. On my head up display Kiriths ship had been blinking yellow and I finally noticed his ECM drones but too late. Jammed! Mental note; change overview settings to include Ewar drones. I had been wondering why he didn’t launch any drones and why I wasn’t receiving any damage back.

Twenty seconds lapsed before my slow targeting restarted and missiles returned to their duty. Whenever (6 times) I lost control of my targeting system, and thus also the orbit around Kiriths vessel, I manually directed my ship away from his rapidly approaching Battlecruiser. The 2 small ECM drones that I had remaining in space finally got a lock on their target not once but twice in a row. His armour eventually melted, however slowly. His duel armour rep setup did wonders in repairing the tough shell surrounding the fragile hull.

By now however I was sure it would break, I overheated my launchers and it did. The hull was paper thin and split quietly then erupted in a large plume of smoke and rubble. His pod had ejected and sat among the wreckage, lit up by the explosions orange glow.

For the duration of the fight, and it took some time, both of us remained silent. Kirith had written in our private chat window; ‘you are going to win, I'm out of cap boosters’. Maybe if I would have seen it in time I would have stopped and offered a rematch, then again maybe not. I was happy to take the killmail and we both knew what we where getting into. Lessons where learned for both of us in this fight I think and no hard feelings I hope. Maybe we can battle it out again someday…in frigates.

This now makes celebs 3 –me 4!
